Osteopaths specialize in assessing, managing, and treating musculoskeletal pain conditions. They integrate standard medical diagnostic methods with hands-on palpation and movement analysis to develop treatment plans tailored to each patient. Your training will cover musculoskeletal assessment techniques, standard medical testing protocols, physical examination methods, and movement analysis to help identify patient conditions.
Treatment approaches are customized based on individual patients and their specific needs. Osteopaths may provide guidance on body alignment, physical activity, proper lifting techniques, dietary recommendations, and other health-related matters. Your practical training begins in the first year with clinical observation sessions at the RMIT Health Clinic.
During the last two years of study, you'll gain supervised experience in safely assessing, diagnosing, and treating various musculoskeletal issues under licensed osteopaths' guidance, completing 38 weeks of clinical practice annually. There's also an option to participate in an internship at an Australian osteopathy practice.
In your final year, you can complete a clinical placement at an Australian osteopathic facility. At RMIT's Bundoora Health Clinic, you'll deliver hands-on treatments while being supervised by accredited osteopaths. You'll learn to perform thorough, professional evaluations and develop management strategies for diverse musculoskeletal conditions.
