Acquire the expertise and understanding required to launch your career in the multifaceted and fulfilling domain of environmental engineering. RMIT's Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental Engineering) (Honours) enables you to specialize in engineering disciplines essential for addressing global environmental issues, with concentrated studies in land remediation, energy systems, hydrogeology, water purification, and sustainable urban development.
Optional courses like the Humanitarian Experiential Learning Project allow you to develop an international outlook on environmental problems and explore how environmental engineers contribute to solutions. Complete this program equipped to protect water supplies, deliver potable water in difficult environments, restore polluted land and groundwater, create sustainable waste management systems, minimize ecological impacts in communities, and conduct environmental assessments for large-scale developments.
Through work-integrated learning, you'll gain practical experience and professional networks. You can devise inventive approaches via eco-conscious design initiatives and participate in the Engineers Without Borders Challenge.
Activities include touring Melbourne's water treatment facilities, exploring geological sites around the city, and educational trips focused on mine rehabilitation, sustainable urban planning, and resource management. Lab work involves small-scale research endeavors, where you'll create solutions like producing biogas from waste, evaluating water treatment methods, and analyzing pollutant dispersion.
During your final year, you'll complete a capstone project tied to industry needs. This synthesizes your technical and practical knowledge as you collaborate with professionals to address real-world challenges. Prior to graduation, we recommend completing at least 10 weeks of engineering work experience to observe professional practice firsthand. Flexible arrangements exist, including international placements lasting six or twelve months, typically undertaken during a gap year in your third year of study.
