RMIT's Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical Engineering) (Honours) provides the expertise to create eco-friendly processes and products that benefit society, industry, and the environment. This chemical engineering program explores how chemical sciences, physics, and biotechnology can optimize industrial operations like water treatment, food manufacturing, and the development of consumer goods like medicines and personal care items.
Students gain expertise in streamlining industrial operations to reduce energy consumption and waste generation. The curriculum also focuses on transforming raw materials like crude oil and minerals into valuable commodities including polymers, fuels, and paper products.
This career-focused program incorporates hands-on learning experiences. Participants engage in innovative sustainability projects and the Engineers Without Borders Challenge - a humanitarian initiative included in all RMIT engineering programs.
Faculty maintain strong industry ties, with professionals regularly contributing to coursework. Multiple work-integrated learning opportunities allow students to apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings while expanding professional connections. The first year features a sustainable development project with Engineers Without Borders, while final-year students complete two capstone projects collaborating with industry partners. Students are encouraged to complete a minimum 10-week industry placement between their third and fourth years, though securing this opportunity remains the student's responsibility.
