QUT provides Queensland's exclusive optometry education program. This comprehensive course consists of a three-year Bachelor of Vision Science degree followed by a two-year Master of Optometry.
Our curriculum incorporates hands-on clinical training, equipping you to care for patients across different social backgrounds, age groups, and various eye health conditions. You'll gain expertise with sophisticated equipment and develop clinical decision-making skills for patient treatment.
At our university-based optometry clinic, you'll refine your clinical abilities under the guidance of licensed optometrists. You'll provide care including specialized services for ophthalmic lenses, contact lenses, pediatric vision, dry eye syndrome, glaucoma, and other ocular disorders, as well as conditions like diabetes that affect eye health. This training expands through community outreach programs focusing on prevention and treatment, plus clinical rotations in optometry offices, ophthalmology clinics, and other medical facilities. Optional opportunities include clinical training in rural Australian locations or international destinations. Previous students have gained experience in countries including the UK, Mexico, India, Japan, Vanuatu, and Singapore.
You'll benefit from personalized instruction by seasoned educators and practitioners. Our faculty members actively participate in vision research, while our clinical instructors are practicing optometrists. We maintain strong connections with industry professionals, featuring guest lecturers from private optometry practices and related healthcare fields like medicine and pharmacy.
