The Master of Teaching (Secondary) is a 1.75-year full-time initial teacher education program designed for graduates with a Bachelor's degree in a non-Education discipline relevant to teaching. This allows you to transition from undergraduate fields like English or communications into education, similar to Chelsea's journey toward her true calling - listen to her experience about this career shift. Beginning December 2024, you can jumpstart your academic journey through the Preparing for Teaching Intensive (EDN587). This foundational course equips you with specialized knowledge, teaching skills, and professional capabilities to educate students in Years 7-12 within your chosen subject area. If you select Science or Humanities and Social Sciences (HaSS) as your primary teaching specialization, you'll be prepared to teach all curriculum components for Years 7-10, then focus on your specialized subject for senior students in Years 11-12. Additionally, you'll select a secondary teaching specialization - Murdoch stands out as Australia's sole university offering Vocational Education and Training (VET) as a secondary teaching option. Pursuing dual teaching areas qualifies you to teach Years 7-10 in your secondary subject, significantly enhancing your employment prospects upon graduation.
