Develop your analytical and research abilities while exploring a subject you're passionate about through a substantial research endeavor. The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) is a globally acknowledged postgraduate research qualification where you'll conduct an in-depth study in your chosen field. This supervised program requires independent investigation of a focused topic with support from an academic team, culminating in a thesis that makes an original contribution to knowledge and showcases your critical thinking and specialized expertise. The MPhil helps refine your analytical and research capabilities through self-directed study in a particular discipline, though typically with narrower scope and less originality than a PhD. Numerous students progress from an MPhil to doctoral studies, while some PhD candidates opt to graduate earlier with an MPhil. Pursuing an MPhil allows you to collaborate with leading scholars in your field, engage in intellectual challenges, and participate in academic conferences worldwide. Research opportunities span all academic fields, with the University promoting both traditional discipline-based and interdisciplinary studies.
To be eligible for admission as a candidate for the Master of Philosophy (MPhil), an applicant must have:* a Bachelor Degree with at least a 2A Honours (AQF level 8); or* a Bachelor Degree (AQF level 7), and satisfy the Dean of Graduate Research with evidence of significant scholarly or professional attainments providing satisfactory research preparation equivalent to AQF level 8.
