Develop into a skilled counselor by blending academic knowledge with hands-on experience through Murdoch's Master of Counselling program. Counselors provide crucial support during challenging life moments, frequently when individuals feel most exposed. Equip yourself for this meaningful profession by enhancing both personal and professional competencies. The program emphasizes establishing vital therapeutic relationships with clients, a cornerstone of successful counseling practice. You'll first evaluate key counseling literature and research to understand theoretical principles, then progress to intensive practical training. During your second year, you can opt to conduct an in-depth research project on counseling theory or practice, or alternatively focus on coursework and case analyses. The program includes two supervised clinical placements, allowing you to hone abilities in client assessment, individual and group therapy techniques, working with both children and adults, professional collaboration, and navigating supervisory relationships.
Completion of the Murdoch University Graduate Diploma in Counselling. OR Comparable programs from other institutions (e.g. Graduate Diploma in Counselling) may be eligible following assessment of previous course content by the Academic chair. Applicants from institutions other than Murdoch will also need to provide: Academic records – certificate of marks, Reference of suitability from previous institution, Provision of Unit guides to for assessment of content and learning outcomes of nominated units. The selection process for all applicants includes: Submission of a personal statement that details past accomplishments, future plans, and interests in completing the Master of Counselling; Curriculum Vitae; and Interview. A maximum of 24 credit points of recognised prior learning may be granted to those applications who have completed equivalent coursework. If the recognised prior learning is equivalent to 12 credit points or less an amended offer for the Graduate Diploma in Counselling may be made.
IELTS overall 7.0 with no band below 7.0; CAE - 185 overall with no band below 185; PTE - 68 with no band below 68; TOEFL IBT - 94 with no band less than 24; OET - OET with a minimum of B (350-440) in each of the four components.
