Design equips communities with inventive, forward-thinking solutions centered around human needs, addressing both existing issues and new obstacles. At MADA, we champion design's greater potential—creating value that transcends visual appeal to make meaningful cultural, economic, environmental, and social impacts. The Master of Design (by Research) prepares designers to spearhead transformation. This program focuses on communication design and industrial design research, emphasizing human-centric product development, transportation design, digital media, interactive experiences, and interior architecture. Students craft a research initiative culminating in original design work, supported by written and visual documentation that traces the project's evolution, findings, and critical framework for evaluation. The written component ranges from 10,000 to 20,000 words, complemented by visual documentation of the creative process. Written work is evaluated alongside an exhibition of design outcomes. To strengthen their research, students complete two coursework units in research methodologies, helping them develop tailored approaches for their projects.
Career pathways
By demonstrating advanced expertise through research and creative methodologies, master's graduates excel as industrial designers, graphic artists, interior architects, digital media creators, academics, and service design consultants. They contribute to corporations, manufacturers, agencies, governments, or establish independent creative practices.
