This academic program focuses on art and design theory as its primary research field. Participants must create a detailed written proposal describing their intended project, situating it within existing scholarly literature, and explaining their research approach. Unlike the Master of Fine Arts or Master of Design programs that emphasize visual projects, this course evaluates students solely through their written thesis. The final paper should range from 30,000 to 40,000 words in length.

Qualification Requirements
All applicants must be able to demonstrate a capacity to carry out independent research and have adequate training and ability to pursue the proposed course of study. In all cases, the qualifications described below must be from Monash University or an equivalent institution in the opinion of the Graduate Research Committee (GRC).
For all applications approved after 1 January 2013 the minimum general admission requirement will be a minimum upper H2B (a mark of 65 or above) in an honours year in a relevant field, or its equivalent, in addition to any specific faculty requirements.
Master of Arts, Master of Arts (Creative Writing), Master of Arts (Music Composition), Master of Arts (Theatre Performance), Master of Environmental Science, Master of Bioethics
an applicant for admission must have qualified as follows in a relevant field:
a four-year Australian or New Zealand bachelor's degree with an overall result of a minimum upper H2B (a mark of 65 or above) in an honours year (normally with a research component in the fourth year), or
an Australian or New Zealand master's preliminary qualification with a significant research component and with an overall result of a minimum upper H2B (a mark of 65 or above), or
an Australian or New Zealand coursework master's degree with a significant research component graded at a minimum upper H2B (a mark of 65 or above), and an overall result of upper H2B or above, or
an Australian or New Zealand research master's degree with an overall result of a minimum upper H2B (a mark of 65 or above), or
qualifications or experience that GRC considers to be equivalent to, or a satisfactory substitute for, the aboveIELTS (Academic) - 6.5 Overall (Minimum 6.0 in each component)

Internet Based TOEFL - 94 (Listening - 20, Reading - 19, Speaking - 20 and Writing - 24)
