The Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University is globally recognized for its outstanding research contributions. As a graduate student here, you'll join this legacy of academic distinction within a dynamic and nurturing professional setting. The Monash Doctoral Program offers a contemporary PhD experience, centered around an in-depth independent research project in your selected field, guided by at least two specialized academic mentors. This research is complemented by professional development opportunities and coursework designed to equip you with skills for success in academia, industry, public service, or community engagement. Your work will culminate in a thesis or approved alternative that advances knowledge in your discipline.
The Doctor of Philosophy can be pursued across all of Monash's research specialties. Your doctoral work will involve producing a thesis (maximum 80,000 words) or equivalent output under faculty supervision, making an original contribution to your field while demonstrating independent research capabilities.
In addition to your primary research, you'll complete tailored professional development activities or coursework units aligned with your academic focus. These components aim to enhance your professional competencies and prepare you for post-graduate career pathways.
Career prospects
Graduates will emerge with comprehensive knowledge of research methodologies in their discipline, evidenced through literature review. You'll develop supervised expertise in applying these methods to your specific research area, produce publishable scholarly work, and gain critical evaluation skills for assessing both your own and others' academic contributions in your field.
The minimum qualifications for admission to PhD enrolment are:
