Anthropology examines various cultural systems through comparative analysis, striving to understand different worldviews from an insider's perspective. Anthropologists investigate not just actions but their underlying motivations, meanings, and value systems. While traditionally focused on Western scholars observing visibly different societies, modern anthropology has evolved significantly. Today's anthropologists still explore cultural differences but now play vital roles across multiple sectors: conflict resolution, healthcare, environmental management, social services, indigenous rights, business operations, media studies, religious movements, international aid, and museum studies. The program examines anthropological themes across diverse cultures, encouraging critical reflection on one's own society through alternative viewpoints. You'll acquire specialized research methodologies, with optional fieldwork opportunities in Malaysia. Coursework covers compelling topics like substance use across cultures, migration patterns, global development initiatives, human rights frameworks, and indigenous spiritual practices.
