Refine your musical talent through theory and practice while delving into the arts, humanities, and social sciences. You will obtain a demanding, top-tier tertiary music education, focusing on performance, composition, or creative music technology. In Arts, you can flexibly choose from a wide array of 40 majors and minors. Consider concentrating on the history, culture, or language of the music you perform, or enhance your career versatility by integrating music with theatre, performance, film, or journalism. Arts is centered on profoundly enriching experiences and, through your elective units, provides four Signature elements to shape your unique graduate profile: Global immersion, Intercultural expertise, Professional experience, or Innovation capability. This program results in two distinct degrees: a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Music. You will enjoy all the advantages of each degree (see Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Music) and be fully prepared to pursue a career in either field independently or to blend both in your professional life. As a graduate with degrees in Arts and Music, you could enter the arts sector, performance, music teaching, or composition, or take on interdisciplinary roles such as production, arts management, policy, or coaching. Sociology prepares you to critically analyze society in all its dimensions, including how it influences and is influenced by individuals and groups. You will employ concepts like class, gender, sexuality, and culture to explore issues of inequality and difference that shape our social environments. By developing a sociological imagination, you will examine social structures, institutions, and processes of change. Central to the sociology major at Monash is a dedication to understanding how people live, think, and feel in fast-evolving global settings. In this major, you will investigate modern identities, communities, institutions, and organizations, and how power functions across these various levels. Our graduates are skilled in designing, conducting, and evaluating research, from large-scale statistical studies to small-scale qualitative projects with diverse communities. You will gain abilities that allow you to drive social change, inclusion, and cohesion. Sociology is a flexible major, offering valuable preparation for careers in areas such as social policy, social research, and journalism.
