This dynamic dual degree serves as your gateway to an international career in creative and cultural arts. Located alongside the prestigious Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA), you'll collaborate with Australia's leading artists, art theorists, and cultural experts. Through our Bachelor of Arts program, you can select from 40 major and minor study areas spanning languages, social sciences, communications, political science, human rights, and international relations, fostering deep critical engagement with your chosen disciplines. Upon completion, you'll earn two distinct degrees: either a Bachelor of Art History and Curating or a combined Bachelor of Fine Art and Bachelor of Arts. This comprehensive preparation enables you to excel in either field individually or integrate both in your professional path. Opting for Art History and Curating will deepen your artistic comprehension and appreciation, including its historical context. Practical experience includes conceptualizing exhibitions, with internship opportunities to hone curatorial skills in real-world settings.
The history specialization helps you navigate our intricate world through historical perspectives. You'll develop critical thinking, research, and writing abilities to analyze and challenge societal structures. The curriculum progressively builds your historical expertise: first-year studies emphasize source analysis—interrogating evidence and understanding its limitations. Second-year coursework explores key historical themes across different eras while examining historiographical approaches. Advanced studies culminate in a capstone research project, refining your writing craft while enhancing source evaluation and historiographical analysis skills.
