Degrees in politics, philosophy, and economics have cultivated influential leaders who've transformed our global landscape, such as Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai, activist-journalist Tariq Ali, and former Australian PMs Malcolm Fraser and Bob Hawke. Today's complex challenges—from climate change to systemic inequalities—demand innovative thinkers. La Trobe's PPE program offers a multidisciplinary lens to examine political and economic frameworks while equipping you with problem-solving skills for meaningful societal change.

Enhance your critical and compassionate reasoning abilities
Master the historical context of political systems to better navigate policy constraints and possibilities
Decipher economic mechanisms within our interconnected global marketplace
Strengthen both qualitative and quantitative analytical capabilities through improved literacy and numeracy
Discover how PPE's interconnected disciplines illuminate societal and personal challenges
Pursue comprehensive study across all three fields while specializing in one focused area
Explore diverse economic theories and their contemporary applications
Develop professional communication skills tailored to diverse audiences and contexts

The Political Economy major is exclusively available to PPE or Law/PPE dual-degree students. This program ensures foundational knowledge across all three disciplines while offering specialized tracks: inequality analysis (examining economic marginalization through gender, race, and class lenses), global institutions (studying state behaviors and international economic systems), or climate crisis (investigating power dynamics hindering environmental solutions). You'll gain practical skills to reshape economic systems and influence consumer/producer behaviors through policy and institutional design.

This major connects you with specialists across multiple fields and prepares you for careers addressing inequality, global governance, and environmental challenges through interdisciplinary approaches.
