Core subjects cover the evolution of international relations and geopolitics, modern security concerns—including American influence, China's ascent, current conflicts, and terrorism—along with pressing matters of human and environmental security. Examine international collaboration and disputes. Assess the interplay of power, sovereignty, and security while studying transformative shifts in modern global politics. The Italian Studies major integrates language learning with cultural, literary, cinematic, historical, and translation studies. While emphasizing present-day Italy, this major also offers insights into early modern, Renaissance, and 20th-century Italian history through selected courses. Pursuing Italian Studies helps refine advanced writing, speaking, and comprehension abilities in Italian while sharpening analytical thinking and argumentation skills. Mastering Italian opens doors to diverse career paths, with alumni securing roles in education, diplomacy, public service, social work, art conservation, global commerce, media, tourism, and translation. Students are encouraged to participate in exchange programs at Italian universities for one or two semesters. (Note: Travel limitations may affect overseas opportunities.) Italian language courses cater to various proficiency levels, from beginners to advanced speakers. Those with prior experience may undergo placement assessments to determine their appropriate course level.
