La Trobe's Bachelor of Biological Sciences provides comprehensive scientific training with the freedom to focus on your preferred specialization. Begin with core principles, developing essential knowledge in biology, chemistry, ecology, and biodiversity while examining the effects of infections, epidemics, and pandemics. This program emphasizes hands-on learning, with practical sessions starting in your first year—both in our campus laboratories and through fieldwork. Gain industry insights through workshops, seminars, and potential work placements led by professionals. Tailor your studies by selecting a major from diverse fields such as biochemistry, botany, ecology, genetics, human physiology, microbiology, or zoology. You also have the option to pursue a double major or add a minor.
Learn to craft professional scientific reports for both expert and general audiences within your chosen biological science discipline. Assess scientific and other data critically to provide specialized advice. Address complex biological challenges by asking insightful questions and applying scientific theories, evidence, and contextual knowledge. Tackle real-world scientific and technical issues using appropriate methodologies in your specialization.
La Trobe alumni have secured positions in laboratory and field-based roles across private companies, research institutions, and government agencies at various levels.
At a minimum, you need to have completed Australian Year 12 (or an accepted international equivalent) with a certain grade. You may also need to meet subject pre-requisites
English language requirement:
IELTS: Overall 6.0, no band less than 6.0; Pearson Test of English (PTE): Overall score of 46 with no communicative skill score less than 46; TOEFL Internet based (iBT): Overall score of 64 with 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing; Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) / Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): 169 with no less than 169 in any component
