The Archaeology and Heritage Studies program integrates archaeological, anthropological, historical, and scientific methods to investigate humanity's past. This major examines everything from ancient artifacts to modern cultural heritage preservation, helping students understand fundamental human behaviors and the accomplishments of civilizations spanning 100,000 years. While offering a worldwide view that traces human evolution from early Homo species to the rise and fall of advanced global civilizations, the program particularly emphasizes Australian contexts - blending archaeological, anthropological, and historical approaches to study the continent's past. Core topics include archaeological techniques, Indigenous Australian archaeology, human origins studies, historical technologies, heritage conservation, and examining sustainability and societal collapse in ancient cultures.
