The Master of Teaching (Secondary) program is designed for university graduates aspiring to teach grades 7-12. This qualification equips students with the foundational knowledge required to pursue registration as secondary educators. The curriculum spans either an intensive 1.5-year accelerated track or a standard 2-year format, covering specialized teaching methodologies, practical classroom experience, and critical examinations of contemporary educational challenges. Graduates emerge ready to begin their teaching careers with both skill and assurance. While most alumni secure teaching positions in public or private schools, alternative career options exist, such as becoming community education coordinators or learning engagement specialists.
Applicants must hold an approved undergraduate bachelor degree or equivalent qualification with topics that enable them to teach to Year 12 in at least one subject specialisation and to Year 10 in a second subject specialisation offered by the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work.
Additional entry requirements
Applicants must complete a non-academic assessment task known as a Teaching Capabilities Statement as part of their application to demonstrate their motivation to teach, their strong interpersonal and communication skills, willingness to learn, resilience, self-efficacy, and strong organisational and planning skills. This involves a short statement in response to three set questions used to demonstrate suitability for study and work in the teaching profession.
Applicants who select this course as a preference during the application process will be directed to a page to meet this requirement.
