This course offers a thorough foundation in GIS and remote sensing principles and their practical uses, designed for students whose undergraduate studies weren't in GIS. It creates both theoretical and hands-on learning opportunities for graduates from diverse academic backgrounds, including public sector and NGO professionals seeking to expand their career options through spatial data collection, integration, and presentation expertise. Participants will gain skills relevant to multiple fields including urban planning, infrastructure development, transportation systems, environmental science, biological research, biodiversity conservation, and archaeological studies.
South Australia's exclusive postgraduate GIS program combines elements from science, computing, data analysis, geography, and cartography into an engaging field that creates real-world impact. From drone-assisted environmental surveys to leveraging spatial data for social equity initiatives and urban development projects, GIS empowers you to make meaningful contributions to society.
The curriculum establishes both conceptual foundations and practical competencies for professionals across various sectors looking to enhance their careers with spatial data acquisition, processing, and visualization capabilities. You'll cultivate GIS expertise applicable to environmental planning, human geography studies, land-use changes, natural resource conservation, ecosystem services evaluation, and archaeological research. Applicants will normally hold an approved degree or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution. The articulated graduate program in GISc is not available to graduates of the Bachelor of Applied Geographical Information Systems or of equivalent undergraduate courses from other tertiary institutions.
