The Doctor of Philosophy (Psychology) program prepares individuals for careers as professional researchers in academic institutions or private sector organizations, while also serving as a stepping stone to university positions. Those who complete the Doctor of Psychology program qualify for general psychology registration in Australia and can pursue the Registrar Program via the Psychology Board of Australia.
The PhD program aims to deliver advanced research training and recognize the creation of meaningful original research that advances academic knowledge. PhD graduates will possess specialized expertise, including advanced cognitive abilities, technical proficiency, and research capabilities in their chosen field, enabling them to: conduct independent original investigations, demonstrate research competence, apply appropriate methodologies with comprehensive literature review, critically evaluate sources and published works, understand their specialization's broader context, produce high-quality academic writing, exhibit independent thinking, and make substantial original contributions to their discipline.
To be accepted for enrolment in a Doctor of Philosophy candidature, an applicant must:
