The Bachelor of Science (Honours) is a specialized fourth-year program designed for graduates holding undergraduate degrees in Science, Information Technology, or Mathematical Sciences. This program prepares students for advanced research degrees or professional careers requiring sophisticated research capabilities.
The honours curriculum includes a major research project alongside coursework covering research methods, academic communication, and literature review development. More than half of the program focuses on the research project, which concludes with an Honours thesis submission. This course aims to cultivate the skills and experience necessary for postgraduate research endeavors.
Supervision is available across diverse fields, including professional computing for qualified IT students, as well as research-focused studies in scientific disciplines such as Biomedical Science, Biotechnology, Environmental and Conservation Science, Food and Nutrition, Geoscience, Mathematical Sciences, and Veterinary and Wildlife Science.
Through the research project, students can explore their chosen field in depth while honing critical investigative skills. Participants will learn to identify and evaluate recent publications in their area of interest, synthesize information, and develop comprehensive research plans. The program emphasizes experimental design, data analysis, and effective research presentation through seminars and thesis writing, while also teaching students how to effectively communicate their findings.
