Our physics research primarily explores optical physics applications, physical sensing techniques, instrumentation and measurement technologies, optical imaging methods, surface and thin film physics, astronomy, photonics, photovoltaic systems, and microelectronics.
For instance, our physics team collaborates with industry and government researchers to implement optical and acoustic sensing solutions for aircraft airframe evaluation, wave energy structure assessment, desalination water acidity monitoring, insect acoustic signature analysis, and radiation effects in fiber optic systems. Tailored postgraduate research projects in these areas are designed in consultation with the postgraduate coordinator or potential advisors. ECU's physics research emphasizes: Fiber optic and acoustic sensing technologies with diverse applications, from structural integrity assessment to agricultural surveillance, pipeline monitoring in oil/gas industries, and radiation sensing. Acoustic tracking of insect populations for agricultural management. Low-coherence interferometry for optical imaging in medical and industrial settings. Photovoltaic materials and device architectures, including optical-fiber power transmission systems. Physics education programs for both physics and engineering disciplines.
