The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts conducts research across a broad spectrum of creative fields within the performing arts.
Areas of study encompass electronic music and sonic arts, historical performance techniques (with emphasis on early keyboard instruments), jazz and modern music, dance and choreographic arts, physical theater, theatrical production (acting, directing, playwriting), dance wellness, and motion capture technology applications. Our institution maintains a distinguished reputation in practice-based research, with numerous faculty members acclaimed both professionally and academically. The academy features top-tier performance venues, ample rehearsal and studio spaces, Australia's most comprehensive historic piano collection, and cutting-edge facilities for spatial audio and motion capture technology. Prospective postgraduate research projects are generally developed in collaboration with the postgraduate coordinator or potential advisors. We encourage applications from qualified graduates and accomplished performing artists from all disciplines, especially those striving for creative breakthroughs, exceptional artistry, and influential contributions to both their field and academic scholarship.
