ECU's mechanical and mechatronic engineering research initiatives explore various themes through experimental and simulation-based approaches.
Key focus areas encompass automotive systems, energy solutions, manufacturing automation, material performance analysis, sustainable energy technologies, robotic systems, and thermofluid dynamics. The Engineering School provides extensive research infrastructure, featuring: State-of-the-art labs (robotics, materials analysis, mechanical evaluation, energy systems, motorsports facilities); Advanced manufacturing capabilities (CNC equipment, additive manufacturing); Fluid dynamics measurement tools (multi-channel anemometry, flow visualization, laser diagnostics, thermal imaging); Engine performance testing equipment; Specialized software (computational fluid dynamics, design simulation, image analysis, optimization algorithms); and Custom experimental configurations (biomass combustion systems, specialized nozzles, engine prototypes, robotic platforms). Postgraduate research opportunities may additionally utilize Perth's high-performance computing resources and foster partnerships with global and industrial collaborators. Prospective research candidates should demonstrate substantial research experience through peer-reviewed publications, academic/industry research positions, or equivalent evidence of research capability.
