Instrumentation, control, and automation engineering combines electrical, electronic, and computer engineering with control systems. This interdisciplinary field focuses on creating smart solutions for automated monitoring, processing, and manufacturing across various industries. The program equips graduates with the expertise to pursue careers in automation and control applications within Western Australia's key sectors like mining, oil and gas, and agriculture.
Course graduates will gain proficiency in electrical and electronic engineering, specializing in designing, developing, and managing sophisticated control systems. They'll also acquire leadership skills for complex, multidisciplinary projects. The curriculum emphasizes practical engineering skills, theoretical foundations, problem-solving, teamwork, and project management, ensuring graduates possess both technical expertise and adaptable competencies.
Students explore process control algorithms, industrial controller communications, and computer automation using PLCs, SCADA, and PC-based systems. Advanced topics like PLC control, SCADA systems, and manufacturing execution systems are introduced in later stages after mastering modern control theory.
Program learning objectives
Master core scientific principles and specialized knowledge in instrumentation control and automation engineering.
Develop critical thinking and research capabilities to solve complex engineering challenges.
Execute and oversee instrumentation control projects using systematic engineering approaches with independent judgment.
