This program is tailored for graduates holding a four-year Engineering bachelor's degree in a related field that lacks Engineers Australia accreditation.
The program isn't appropriate for those who already possess an Engineers Australia-accredited four-year degree in the same discipline. Individuals with EA-accredited qualifications who wish to pursue graduate studies in their field should explore the Master of Philosophy or Master of Engineering Management programs instead.
This specialization prepares aspiring metallurgical and process engineers with fundamental concepts and practical applications for extracting, separating, and refining precious, critical, and base metals from both primary and secondary sources.
You'll explore methods and innovative technologies in mineral processing and extractive metallurgy. The curriculum covers the complete spectrum of minerals and metals processing, including mineral analysis, process optimization, facility design, materials recycling, environmental considerations, as well as project evaluation and mineral economics components.
A thorough grasp of metallurgical techniques is essential for maximizing resource recovery, especially from low-grade and complex ore deposits. Hands-on laboratory sessions will provide practical experience across various mineral processing stages and value extraction techniques. Throughout the program, you'll engage in professional engineering practice through Work Integrated Learning and real-world case studies at operational sites.
Applicants require a 4-year Engineering degree from a recognised institution in the same discipline of study. Students who have completed the Graduate Diploma of Professional Engineering degree at Curtin will be considered to have met the above course requirement.
