The Master of Philosophy program is designed to extend your academic expertise beyond undergraduate honors or postgraduate diploma qualifications, with a primary focus on producing a research thesis. After earning this research-based master's degree, you become eligible to apply for admission to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program.
Research-focused graduate degrees stand apart from other postgraduate programs by requiring that research constitutes at least two-thirds of the study plan. While some coursework may be included, the core of your work involves developing a thesis under the mentorship of a primary supervisor and supporting advisors. The thesis must represent, in the examiners' judgment, a significant original contribution to any field of knowledge—whether through new discoveries, theoretical advancements, or creative reinterpretations of existing information and concepts. Additionally, it should showcase your ability to independently plan, execute, and finalize research projects.
