The Master of Philosophy program is designed to extend knowledge beyond undergraduate honors or postgraduate diploma qualifications, with a research thesis as its final outcome. After earning this research-based master's degree, you become eligible to apply for admission to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program.
Research-focused advanced degrees distinguish themselves from other postgraduate programs by requiring that research constitutes at least two-thirds of the curriculum. While some coursework may be necessary, the primary focus is on producing a thesis under the mentorship of a supervisor and associate supervisor(s). Examiners must judge your thesis to make a significant original contribution to any field of knowledge, whether through new discoveries, theoretical developments, or creative reinterpretations of existing information and concepts. Additionally, it should showcase your ability to independently plan, execute, and finalize research projects.
