The Master of Philosophy program is designed to extend knowledge beyond undergraduate honors or postgraduate diploma qualifications, with a research thesis as its final outcome. After earning this research-based master's degree, you can seek admission to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program.
Research-focused higher degrees stand apart from other postgraduate programs, requiring at least two-thirds of the curriculum to be dedicated to research. While some coursework may be necessary, the primary focus involves developing a thesis under the supervision of a primary advisor and supporting supervisors. Examiners must judge your thesis as a significant, original contribution to any field—whether through new discoveries, theoretical advancements, or fresh interpretations of existing data and concepts. Additionally, it should showcase your ability to independently plan, execute, and finalize research projects.
