This focused, hands-on legal training (PLT) program is designed for law graduates seeking admission to practice law in Western Australia. Approved by the Legal Practice Board of WA, it was the first university-based PLT program in the state. The curriculum covers civil litigation, commercial/corporate law, and property law practice while developing key legal skills like advocacy, cross-cultural communication, dispute resolution, legal drafting, and client interviews. A mandatory one-week placement at the John Curtin Law Clinic is included.
Located in Perth's central business district near legal offices, the program offers evening classes for working professionals. Students facing work-related conflicts may request assessment deadline extensions.
Assessment is entirely coursework-based with no examinations. Participants must complete either 75 days in an approved legal workplace or a competitive 40-day placement at the John Curtin Law Clinic. Clinic placements involve direct client work, real case advice, and training in legal practice management systems.
