Bachelor's degree programs equip students with comprehensive knowledge and skills in a specific discipline, aligning with AQF level 7 qualifications for professional careers and advanced education. Students can explore their scientific interests by selecting at least one major offered by the Faculty of Science and Engineering, with options to pursue double majors throughout their studies. Each major includes extension specializations, while additional science specializations are available alongside chosen majors, requiring first-year prerequisite coursework. Students may also complement their science education with minors that don't have first-year prerequisites.
Biochemistry focuses on examining the molecular foundations of life. This major covers fundamental chemical concepts, molecular architecture, and reaction mechanisms as they apply to biological compounds.
The curriculum includes advanced coursework in biological, pharmaceutical, and natural product chemistry during second and third years, supplemented by studies in cellular biology, molecular genetics, and molecular biology.
Students explore cellular regulatory mechanisms, including communication systems, defense mechanisms, and associated metabolic processes.
The program also examines molecular interactions and their practical applications in biosensors, pharmaceutical development, and assessing how external substances affect biological organisms.
