This Biological Anthropology specialization concentrates on analyzing fossil evidence spanning the past 7-8 million years within the fields of palaeoanthropology and primate-human evolutionary biology. Students will acquire expertise in interpreting the behaviors of ancient hominins by studying skeletal and dental structures from both extinct hominins and living primates. The program also emphasizes investigating the environmental and evolutionary contexts of hominin and primate development. Participants receive comprehensive training in theoretical frameworks and practical methodologies to conduct original research or develop professional competencies in palaeoanthropology, primate evolutionary studies, and human origins.
Learning Outcomes
comprehend the evolutionary origins and fossil documentation of ancestral hominins across the past 7-8 million years;
master the principles, techniques, and applications of palaeoanthropological research;
cultivate a nuanced understanding of fossil record constraints in behavioral reconstruction; and
complete an independent research project in palaeoanthropology.
