The Musicology program enables students to cultivate an advanced comprehension of music's cultural, historical, theoretical, and analytical contexts across diverse cultures and eras. The curriculum begins with two foundational courses that explore inquiry-driven musical scholarship. Subsequent mandatory courses offer extensive knowledge of musical writing styles (including criticism) alongside essential theoretical and methodological training, introducing students to key research documents and culminating in a research project utilizing resources from Canberra's cultural institutions. Students then select from various academic music courses to fulfill the remaining 24 units, ensuring thorough preparation for Honours and postgraduate musicology research.
