The Musicology Honours Specialisation provides advanced training for professional careers or postgraduate research by cultivating expertise in musicological research principles, methodologies, and theoretical frameworks. Students will design and execute an original research project culminating in a 20,000-word thesis that offers novel insights or addresses complex challenges in the field.
Learning Outcomes
formulate a substantial research question in musicology or ethnomusicology;
conduct independent, ethical, and innovative investigation of this question, employing appropriate disciplinary theories and methodologies while situating the research within relevant scholarly traditions; and
effectively present their research process and conclusions through a comprehensive 20,000-word thesis.

An AQF Level 7 Bachelor of Music degree or equivalent completed within the last two years
With a weighted average mark equivalent to an ANU 70 per cent calculated from the 36 units ie 0.75 EFTSL of courses in the discipline cognate to the honours specialisation excluding 1000 - level courses ie introductory undergraduate courses with the highest marks
And the satisfaction of any further requirements specified in the relevant honours specialization.
