The Earth Physics Honours specialization is designed for students eager to pursue an independent research project in geophysics under faculty supervision, with prerequisite knowledge in fields like Physics, Earth and Marine Sciences, Mathematics, Engineering, or Computer Science. Typically spanning two full-time semesters, this program offers research methodology training, optional coursework in data science and computational geosciences, alongside a significant research component (24-36 units) culminating in an Honours thesis. This comprehensive preparation opens doors to diverse industry and government careers, as well as advanced academic pursuits like Masters or Ph.D. programs.
Learning Outcomes
Design and conduct sustained independent research to advance knowledge in Earth physics through critical exploration of a selected topic.
Critically assess relevant Earth physics theories and concepts, connecting them to appropriate methodologies and evidence to form valid conclusions.
