The Energy and Renewable Energy Systems Major integrates multiple engineering fields to pursue a unified objective: providing society with cost-effective, eco-friendly, low-carbon energy solutions.
This program establishes its groundwork in core mechanical and electrical engineering principles. It acknowledges that solar PV and wind power currently account for 75% of worldwide new power generation installations (99% in Australia) due to their affordability and declining costs. The shift toward electric vehicles, heating systems, and industrial processes is projected to at least double electricity consumption.
Participants develop expertise in solar/wind technologies, power grid infrastructure, energy storage solutions, and hydrogen production/application. The curriculum examines ecological, societal, resource availability, material science, and economic factors.
