Thai serves as Thailand's national language, used by approximately 70 million people either as their first or additional language within Thai communities globally. Learning Thai provides students with distinctive insights into contemporary Thailand, along with understanding its cultural and social fabric. Our ANU program combines practical Thai communication skills with opportunities to explore the country's literary, cinematic, and societal treasures. Learners enhance their Thai proficiency while gaining knowledge of related historical, political, and socio-cultural backgrounds. The curriculum supports both individual aspirations and Australia's strategic needs by equipping graduates for meaningful interactions with Thailand's culturally rich environment. Pursuing Thai as a major extends beyond academics, with students having opportunities for immersive study in Thailand through various overseas programs, including semester and full-year exchanges. Eligible students may apply for competitive scholarships to support these experiences.
