Philosophy explores the core principles of existence and human understanding. It represents the foundational layer you uncover when persistently questioning 'why' in any field. At ANU, philosophy also serves as an approach: dissecting questions into their fundamental elements, constructing well-reasoned logical arguments, and pursuing their conclusions, no matter how unexpected.
Learning Outcomes
thoroughly examine and evaluate arguments across diverse disciplines, potentially employing formal logic techniques;
formulate compelling arguments and presentations, including responding to in-depth critiques of their concepts;
implement sophisticated abstract theories to practical situations in various domains;
identify underlying premises in social, political, scientific, ethical, and cultural debates, connecting them to disputed concepts and real-world situations; and
outline different philosophical schools of thought and their historical development.
