The Language Studies Honours Specialisation provides advanced training for professional careers or postgraduate research by cultivating expertise in research methodologies, principles, and theoretical frameworks within language studies. Students will design and execute a substantial research project, usually in the form of a 20,000-word thesis, that generates novel insights or addresses complex challenges. This program is tailored for students pursuing honours in modern European languages or linguistics. Those focusing on Asian languages (Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Sanskrit, Thai, or Vietnamese) should enroll in the Asia Pacific Studies Honours Specialisation instead.
Learning Outcomes
formulate meaningful research questions in language studies;
conduct investigations with creativity, critical thinking, ethical consideration, and independence, employing appropriate theoretical and methodological approaches while situating the research within relevant academic traditions; and
effectively present research findings through suitable mediums.
