Hindi stands as India's predominant language. With approximately 500 million speakers using it either as their native tongue or secondary language, it ranks among the globe's most spoken languages. At ANU, Hindi instruction focuses on both practical communication skills and exploring the language's cultural treasures, from literary works to Bollywood cinema. As relations between India and Australia continue to strengthen, Hindi proficiency enables deeper engagement with these developing connections across business, culture, and society. Pursuing Hindi as a major extends learning beyond campus walls through interactions with Hindi-speaking communities locally, within the global Indian diaspora, and in India proper. The program encourages students to enhance their studies through intensive summer language courses in India.
