From the streamlined designs of aircraft to the precise mechanisms of medical implants - mechanical engineering powers these dynamic innovations and many more, from rapid transit systems in urban landscapes to the robust generators energizing our communities.
Mechanical engineering focuses on perfecting the creation, production, and operation of complex systems to develop tomorrow's advanced machinery. Throughout this program, you'll immerse yourself in technical principles, discovering how to optimize mechanical systems for peak performance. You'll gain practical expertise in our modern fabrication spaces, featuring design studios and specialized labs for computing, automation, robotics, and mechatronics - creating an ideal environment to refine your abilities.
Our Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical) maintains close industry connections with an emphasis on inventive design. You will:
study fundamental mechanical engineering fields including aeronautics, robotic systems, mineral extraction, and energy engineering
participate in practical design-and-build initiatives
acquire direct experience using premium equipment like our aircraft simulation systems, combustion engines, aerodynamic testing tunnels, and advanced materials research facilities
access professional development through industry partnerships, work placements, and collaborative projects
undertake an intensive two-month hands-on training period.
Aerospace specialists develop technology to investigate our cosmic neighborhood and distant galaxies - with career possibilities as expansive as the field itself.
Being the sole South Australian institution providing aerospace specialization, we equip students for these prospects through curriculum covering flight engineering, spacecraft development, and aviation structures.
Aerospace professionals may collaborate with aviation firms, defense contractors, communication networks, or satellite organizations on designing, producing, and enhancing aircraft, space vehicles, and related technologies. Responsibilities could span multiple areas, including aerodynamic analysis, vehicle performance evaluation, and enhancing operational efficiency and reliability.
